Celebrate World Poetry Day with 40 Stunning Lettering Tattoos
These lettering tattooers make words a work of art
March 21st is World Poetry Day and what better way for us to highlight this holiday than by shouting out some of our favorite lettering tattooers. Lettering has been a part of tattoo culture for decades and has split off into a variety of distinct styles—from traditional to West Coast to new school to fancy script to calligraphy.
Many have misconceptions about lettering and believe it to be easy, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Lettering artists need to be on point with their line work, because it’s very easy to see if they make a mistake. Additionally, flow and composition are crucial, as the text needs to compliment the shape of the body perfectly. And of course, each part of the tattoo needs to be spelled correctly and with proper grammar—that’s a given.
So whether you’re interesting in getting a quote that means something to you or just a small word, make sure you’re going to a reputable artist who puts their heart and soul into each of their tattoos. Take a look at some of our favorite lettering artists from around the world in the gallery below, then let us know your favorite artist from this list on social media.
