Gram This, It’s World Social Media Day
Whether you're tweeting, posting a TikTok or going old school with Facebook, you'll want to share these tattoos
Over the last 15 years, social media has transformed our world in ways that couldn’t have been predicted. In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook (previously named Facemash) while attending Harvard University. Initially created as a hot or not website for university students, it went on to ignite the social media movement—with sites like YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr and Reddit following closely behind. These sites exploded over night, allowing more information than ever before to be shared around the world. Following in the footsteps of the previous social media sites, Instagram emerged in 2010 and created what we now know as the influencer.
Although internet celebrities have been around for some time, thanks to Myspace (who walked to allow Facebook to run), Instagram allowed almost anyone to gain a huge following from content alone and make a living from sponsorships. Today, there are hundreds of thousands of influencers out there and in some cases, they have more power over consumers than traditional celebrities. Hell, you even have tattoo artists who are also influencers—such as Kat Von D, Nikko Hurtado and Bang Bang. These artists became influencers from appearing on TV shows to tattooing A-list celebrities, in turn having a tremendous impact on tattoo culture.
In honor of World Social Media Day, which is observed every year on June 30th, we’re sharing some of our favorite tattoos inspired by social media culture. Take a peek at these grammable tattoos in the gallery below and let us know your go to social media page in the comments section on social media.
