While full back pieces and detailed sleeves are still as popular as ever, miniature tattoos are definitely having a moment right now, and NYC-based tattoo artist Jonathan “JonBoy” Valena is the master behind dozens of celebrities’ awesome micro tats, including Justin Bieber, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Ireland and Hailey Baldwin, and Zayn Malik, to name a few. If you ask JonBoy, he’ll tell you that he never saw tattoo art in his future (he actually went to seminary school and was planning to be a youth pastor!), but was exposed to tattoos at an early age by his grandfather, who was in the Navy and had ink of his own. Now, JonBoy is a famous tattoo artist, responsible for some of the most delicate designs in the celebrity world.
Known for his gorgeous, minimalist ink and delicate, dot and line tattoos, JonBoy strives to be “the Dr. Woo of the East Coast,” and, if you ask us, he’s already gone above and beyond achieving that goal. So, if you’re in the market for a sweet micro tattoo, JonBoy is definitely the guy you should see. Keep in mind though, the going rate for some JonBoy ink at West 4 Tattoo in New York City is $300 per hour, so you better start saving those pennies now!
