As the latest novel in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is set for release at the end of the summer the book series is making headlines again due to a pretty bold casting and publicity campaign. The publisher, Hachette Australia, has stated they “want your back for a national Tatvertising campaign,” (pun totally intended) to publicize the upcoming novel, The Girl in the Spider’s Web by David Lagercrantz. This will be the first novel in the series not written by the late Stieg Larsson. Larsson passed away after suffering a heart attack in 2004.
Basically, you (if you’re lady and living in Australia) can visit the book’s website and apply with your information, giving a short explanation saying why you want to receive the dragon tattoo and join the campaign. If they choose you you’ll get a free, black-and-grey dragon inked on your back and they’ll use the pictures they take of it to advertise the book.
Some people aren’t too thrilled with the idea, which is pretty understandable considering for all intents and purposes you’d be a walking, human billboard. But then again who are we to tell anyone what they can and can’t ink on their bodies? Plus, if you wanted a black-and-grey dragon tattoo anyway, this is kind of a sweet deal.
When the U.S. version of the movie came out, starring Rooney Mara as the lead of Lisbeth Salander, Mara went through a decent amount of body modifications to prepare for the role. While the ink she sports wasn’t real—which is a little disappointing—Mara did get real lip, eyebrow, nose, nipples and ear piercings so she could completely embody her character, which is pretty badass.
Check out some of the tattoos and piercings Mara donned for her role below to get an idea of the type of tattoo the winner will end up with. We don’t know if they’ll be getting any of the other modifications, that’s probably up to them.
