Do You Know Someone Rocking an Unalome Tattoo?

Infinity tattoos, it’s time that you stepped aside because a new symbol is sweeping Pinterest pages and Instagram feeds around the globe. That’s right, we’re FINALLY talking about unalome tattoos—also known as one of the most popular tattoo trends of 2017. This Buddhist symbol has quickly become one of the most highly requested tattoos in parlors around the planet and there are countless ways that a collector can make this design their own. But, before you spend your coins getting this viral tattoo inked on your body—it’s time that you learned a thing or two about this delicate and dainty symbol.

An unalome is a Buddhist symbol that has gone viral on social media.

Unalomes represent the enlightenment that comes with overcoming the struggles of life.

The unalome comes from the Buddhist religion and it dates back several centuries. It can even be found on Royal Thai and Cambodian flags.

The unalome has gone viral because it is a beautiful and simple symbol that carries big meaning.

And while the message of the unalome is fairly universal, it can be augmented and adapted to fit the individual.

One way that the unalome can be adapted to fit the individual is through the orientation of the symbols spiral. If the unalome curls to the left, it is considered to be feminine, whereas if it curls right it is masculine.

Many have brought up whether this tattoo trend is cultural appreciation or appropriation, which is an argument that collectors should consider before getting this tattoo. All we can say is that Buddhist and Hindi symbols, as well as kanji lettering have been a part of tattooing for centuries and they aren’t showing any signs of dying out.

This symbol has attracted the interest of millennials because it’s simple, delicate, and totally Instagrammable.

It makes the perfect embellishment for a sternum or underboob.

However, we also think that an unalome looks lovely on many different areas of the body.
