Bryan “Birdman” Williams, one half of Cash Money Records (complete with Ronald “Slim” Williams), is no stranger to legal drama. Usually he comes out of the ring with the belt, but this time he paid a smooth $1,942,400.58 to the IRS–pocket change, right?
TMZ reported the CEO had gotten way behind on his taxes and was warned to pay up on two occasions over the last six months, during December 2014 and February 2015. Also on December 4, 2014 was Lil Wayne’s twitter rant, confessing his desire to get off the label, “I am a prisoner and so is my creativity,” he tweeted. The rapper got his start at the label in 1993 and rose to fame in the early 2000s. Certainly he helped Cash Money Records succeed in his own right. Lil Wayne tweeted, “To all my fans, I want u to know that my album [Tha Carter V] won’t and hasn’t been released bekuz Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it.”
Young Money Records and Cash Money go hand in hand. Young Money has Nicki Minaj and Drake in their court, so does this mean they too will split? It seems that answer is a long time coming; Birdman has been pushing the $51 million dollar lawsuit filed by Lil Wayne in January under the rug. Birdman couldn’t ignore the IRS, though; they had plans to seize his hefty assets.
We’re glad he got himself out of trouble, for now. To celebrate, here’s a list of tattooed artists that have landed on the Young Money Cash Money Records roster.
