25 Tattoos For People Who’d Rather Be Sleeping
Is sleep your favorite part of the day?
We’ve all pondered the age old question: are you an early bird or a night owl? I myself, am neither. I’d rather be asleep at 11pm and wake up at 10am. This is, of course, not a regular occurrence as I have work responsibilities and a pet that wakes me up at sunrise, but it’s the goal.
Sleep is something we all need and the process is split into two distinctive stages: REM and non-REM sleep. REM stands for rapid eye movement and during this mode of sleep, the body experiences virtual paralysis of the body and is the stage where most dreaming occurs as there’s high brain activity.
Dreams are a narrative of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that happen in the mind during sleep. Dreams can occur during the other stages of sleep, but they are the most vivid during REM. Dreams can last a few seconds to a whopping 30 minutes in length. You’re able to remember your dreams if you’re woken up during the REM stage, however, the average person has between three and five dreams each night. As you get older, you spend less and less of your sleep dreaming, with babies dreaming half of the time they’re sleeping and elderly people only dreaming 1/5 of the time.
