How HolyGod Went From Being Bullied to Social Media Sensation
Meet the man behind the meme
HolyGod, born Javante Carter, is an 18-year-old influencer who’s risen to fame on social media for creating short skits, many of which revolve around his face. HolyGod’s facial structure is impacted by a condition called ectodermal dysplasia, which resulted in him being bullied growing up. However, today his mug is a money making machine that’s captured the attention of celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Kodak Black, and Lil Xan. Take a look at our exclusive interview with this online sensation and let us know your thoughts on his content in the comments section.
What is ectodermal dysplasia?
Ectodermal dysplasia is a condition that affects the growth of teeth, sweat glands, hair and other physical features.
How did your disorder impact you socially and were you bullied growing up?
My condition has impacted me socially tremendously because of the way I look. I didn’t have any teeth and looked different from other kids, so it was like a target on my back for bullies. Growing up in New Orleans is tough as it is so with my condition I got bullied as a child before the fame.
When did you realize that what made you different could become a career on social media?
I realized that being different could make me a career about two years ago when my business partner (@y.s74) talked me into taking things seriously and pursuing it full time.
What was your first experience going viral and how did it lead you to meeting every big rapper at the moment?
My first experience going viral was when I was 8 years old, I posted a picture and it turned into a legendary meme. Years later when I started again with my business partner, Y.S. I did a video signing to Kodak Black’s latest song at the time and Snoop Dogg and people at World Star picked it up and reposted it.
What’s your process for creating content on social media and what’s your favorite video that you’ve created so far?
To be honest, my business partner Y.S usually handles the creating process as far as ideas and filming. My favorite videos would have to be the videos I do about “pollution.” I like those videos the most because it goes beyond comedy and has a serious message behind it.
How were you introduced Long Neck and Gucci Berry? What’s your favorite part about working with these creators?
I was introduced to them through mutual friends. My favorite part of working with them would have to be the epic content we create.
What do you hope will come out of your Instagram fame and who do you hope to work with in the future?
I hope I can turn my fame into inspiration, to show people that being different isn’t a bad thing. In the future, I hope to work with 50 Cent, he’s an idol of mine and I look up to him for being such a great entrepreneur.
What advice would you give to people about making it on social media and growing a following?
Be consistent and find yourself a good team.
What was your first tattoo, your favorite tattoo, and your most recent tattoo?
My first tattoo, which happens to be my favorite tattoo, is the one dedicated to my brother who passed away in a car wreck. My most recent tattoo is my chest piece which covers my whole chest.
Where do you hope to be in one year’s time?
In a year, I hope to obviously keep growing but to branch out more towards YouTube. With my first theater appearance last month in “I Got The Hook Up 2,” I hope that opens other doors to more movie roles.
What’s up next for HolyGod?
YouTube. Hoping to make my mark on YouTube like I did Instagram.
