Top NYC Tattooer Designs Album Cover for Vessel of Light
Take a look at the metal band's badass album art
Meet Ruben Barahona, a top tier tattooer based in New York City. Originally from Guatemala, Barahona has made a name for himself as a popular culture-loving tattooer, who frequently inks portraits of beloved comic book characters and movie stars. Recently, Barahona flipped the script, creating the album art for the metal band, Vessel of Light.
Formed by Dan Lorenzo and Nathan Opposition in 2017, Vessel of Light has quickly made a name for themselves within the hardcore scene. In less than two years, the duo has released three albums, most recently “Thy Serpent Rise.” The album features 12 original tracks and Lorenzo himself tapped Barahona for the artwork.
Barahona, a metal lover himself, began listening to metal music early on, sharing “I started listening to heavy metal music as an escape of my reality growing up as a kid in Guatemala. High poverty rates, economic instability, and lack of basic human resources… so heavy music was my strength.”
As for his favorite groups, Barahona loves to throwback to the classics we all know and love. “I first started with classic heavy metal like Sabbath, Priest, and Iron Maiden, and then when I heard Slayer everything went downhill ( laughs): Death, Kreator, Sodom. Obituary, Possessed and the list goes on forever.”
